Weird Massage
I just got back from the weirdest massage ever. I went to a new place today and my first clue that this would be different should have been that the massage therapist was a tiny OLD Vietnamese woman. I figured she would have no muscle strenght at all but I was dead wrong. She was strong! She spent an incredibly long time massaging my left leg and asked " Is honey bud lake?" Huh?? I figured a safe answer was "No thanks". Then she patted the hummingbird tattoo on my left ankle and repeated "Is honey bud lake?" Oh...yes yes that is a hummingbird on my leg.
About half way through the massage she jumped up on the table..I'm not kidding.. and I thought she was going to walk on my back but she apparently just wanted a better angle.I had to bite the inside of my cheek to keep from laughing out loud. Then she said " I poo hotel on you now" Um..again no thanks but it turned out to be a HOT TOWEL. That did feel great on my back. Next came the arms and she said" Pity brewerys".I'm at a total loss to understand this one...She tapped the rings on my right hand and repeated it "Pity brewerys" Oh pretty blue rings..I think I'm catching on!
When it was all over I have to admit it was pretty relaxing.
Doppelgangers
(
A friend of mine posted something interesting on Facebook. It's official Doppelganger week on Facebook . Since a doppelganger refers to a look-alike creature, Facebook users are encouraged to post a picture of a celebrity they have been told they resemble…
I posted Bette Midler. Years ago while on vacation in Hawaii a woman approached me in a grocery store and said "You're Bette Midler aren't you?" I said "no" but she insisted I was... To this day I bet she is still telling people she talked to Bette Midler on Maui. Who do YOU look like?
Jack and I played golf at Santa Rosa yesterday. I feel like I'm back to square one and have not made any improvements!
Twelve more days on the job...37 days until Seattle...approx 57 days until Road Trip 2010!

More Steven Tyler Sightings (but not by me)
This was in the Desert Sun today (byline by Maggie Downs): I love that he sang over the loudspeaker at Home Depot!!
Where is Steven?
Around 12:42 p.m. today, I gleefully sent my boyfriend the following text: "Just got hugged by Steven Tyler."
Let me explain.
Steven Tyler is in the desert. We know that because my colleague Bruce Fessier wrote about it, then Rolling Stone picked up on it and TMZ ran with it. It's practically a full-fledged Aerosmith tour, with all the impromptu performances he's been making all over town.
Since then, I kept hearing about other Steven Tyler sightings from my sources. (And by "sources," I mean "friends on Facebook.")
Here's where he's been so far:
* Karaoke night at Tilted Kilt in Palm Desert.
* Singing on the loudspeaker at Home Depot.
* Signing autographs in the Albertson's parking lot in Rancho Mirage.
* Bikram Yoga in Palm Desert.
* Wandering around El Paseo in Palm Desert.
* Native Foods in Palm Desert.
Armed with that knowledge, I spent my lunch hour today at Native Foods to possibly spot/stalk Steven Tyler. (Come on, wouldn't you? I vividly remember my sister playing Aerosmith on her 8-track player. The guy is a legend. Besides, Native Foods is my favorite restaurant.)
Anyway, so I'm there at Native Foods, carefully positioned by the beverage cooler where I can see the entire dining room. And then, just as my Soul Bowl order arrived, Steven Tyler swaggered in the door like he owned the place. Nearly every table was full, but he grabbed the one empty seat in the middle of the crowded place.
I summoned enough courage to walk over and squat next to his table, even though I could feel every eye in the place burning a hole in my back. I rationalized that interrupting him while he's reading the menu is far less of a crime than interrupting him while he's actually eating.
"Excuse me," I said, and Steven Tyler held one glittery, manicured fingernail against the menu to hold his place.
"I know you're here to eat, and I'm sorry to bug you, but it's not every day that Steven Tyler walks into a restaurant while I'm eating lunch," I said. (I left out the part where I was purposely there to stalk him.)
Then I flipped out. I started shaking, and Steven Tyler grabbed my hand and said, "Oh, sweetie. It's cool."
I asked if I could take his photo, as I was conveniently armed with a camera. He declined and said, "I'm not really here for pictures. But I'll give you a hug." And he did, embracing me for what seemed like a very long time.
He walked me back to my table and we engaged in some superficial, friendly banter. He asked about the dish I ordered, and he said he hasn't tried that yet. I asked how he likes the desert, and he said he prefers it to be hot. And overcome by awkwardness, I became an ambassador for this area and said something dumb like, "We are pleased to have you in our desert."
Then he went back to his table, ate a sandwich, drank an Izze soda and had some hot tea.
Meanwhile, I furiously texted people about my brush with a rock star and pretended to read a book.
I'll admit, I wasn't even a huge Aerosmith fan when today began. But Steven Tyler really won me over -- he couldn't have been nicer, even to a stalker who rudely interrupted his lunch.

Drying Out
Today was sunny and dry. The paper is forecasting "Frankenstorm" Puleeese. A few drops of rain tomorrow does not qualify for panic mode. Granted last week was pretty wet and wild.
Jack got back on the golf course today. I'm guessing the rest of the boys were ready to get out of the house too.
I have 14 days of work left, thank God. The disorganized manager is making me crazy. 42 days until I'm in Seattle. I'll get to watch Madison at her swimming and gymnastic classes. She and Derek are heading to Virginia where Derek's Dad and Stepmom live. That will be one loooong flight with a 5 year old but I'm happy she gets to visit with her Grandpa Ed,Uncle B and Uncle Adam.

Who knows from there. It's exciting getting some plans shaped up.

More Weather
Here is the weather forecast for Seattle, uh I mean Palm Springs for Thursday:
Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. High near 58. Breezy, with a east wind between 15 and 25 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%.
It was really weird driving home tonight in the rain. You get so used to it in the Northwest and it seems strange here, but Jack and I like the smell and the fresh air..
I gave notice at work today. My last day will be February 24. I also changed my flight to Seattle in March so I have two more days. Feels like a weight lifted off my shoulders.
Jack has been busy messing with a new TV in the 5th wheel. Rainy day projects

Rain Rain Rain
When it rains in the Coachella Valley, you can almost always count on roads flooding and streets closing. That's what happened Monday as the first of three winter storms forecast for this week swept through the area, bringing a record-setting amount of rain. Almost one inch at the airport.
The storm drains where I work filled up and began to oveflow. We were concerned that the water would start creeping into the storage units themselves underneath the doors. That never happened as the rain finally subsided and the water level went down in the drains. More rain expected today and tomorrow.
Jay heads home this afternoon. I guess he'll be leaving rainy Palm Springs and arrive back to the same in Seattle.

Star Sighting on El Paseo!
Here is a picture of Jay with his new $133K Aston Martin..he wishes. We walked down El Paseo today and stopped for lunch at California Pizza Company...In walks Steven Tyler of Aerosmith! Hard to miss him..long hair, tight jeans, rock star shirt, shades and his big lips. Jay and I wanted to take his picture but he was eating with another guy (Steven ate salad) and we didn't want to be rude and interupt him. This picture is from the internet. We googled him and saw that he had been admittd to rehab before Christmas. Maybe he was at The Betty Ford Clinic and they let him out for lunch?

Palm Springs Dog Show
This picture was from last year but I saw as many interesting people as I did dogs. (Newfoundland , left and puppy Bouvier )There were hundreds of dogs. My job was to "patrol" the RV lot and various areas around the show rings. I walked almost 8 hours straight. Barry Manilow showed up (without a dog) and almost caused a riot.
I think two of the coolest dogs are Newfies (Newfoundlands) and Bouviers. My neighbors in Auburn had two Bouviers that looked like gigantic furry bears. They would run down to the lake onto the dock and it would rock and sway like crazy.

Payday
I also just found out I'm making a dollar an hour less than what I thought I would make! Not worth grousing about it as I plan on quitting the end of April anyway..but that equates to $8 per day LESS, which is almost 3 gallons of gas,or a fish sandwich at Carls Jr. or an Estee Lauder...wait,you can't buy ANY Estee Lauder for $8.00,two glasses of wine..I could go on and on...

12 Days Until Jay's Visit!
Picture: Me and Jay last year at Joshua Tree.
Jay and I worked together for years at Group Health and A.J Gallagher. One of the funniest/funnest people I know. I'm thinking about him tonight while Boise State (his alma mater) beats TCU.....and Jack won $$ as a result in a football pool! Yay
Countdown to my Seattle trip 8.5 weeks
Countdown of my time left incarcerated at current job 50 days (keep in mind I only work 3 days a week in case the math doesnt add up for ya)
17 Weeks
That's how long until we leave again in the 5th wheel...not that I'm counting down or anything.

New Years Day
We had a great New Years Day with Gary,Suzie,Phoebe,Pam,Bruce, Dan and Terry. Perfect weather..70's and sunny, wonderful food and adult beverages... Too bad the Ducks lost the Rose Bowl.
I rode my new bike to the end of Stage Line Drive today, which is probably about a mile round trip. My legs are killin' me..I will have to get used to riding again.
