The Dude is Back!

The past few days Jack and I have identified our old friend "The Dude". He is our territorial Hummingbird that we thought had disappeared. The Dude has a distinctive purple head and a "ducktail". He also has certain postures and mannerisms that are different from the other birds that visit the feeder.

For the next four days Jack and I will be doing a security event at the Palm Springs Convention Center. It is the 30th meeting of the American Board of Toxicologists. Sounds like a rowdy group.;) We need to wear blazers, white shirts, black pants and ties!

Jack and Gary finished the floor yesterday and it is sturdy enough to hold an elephant now. Gary said he thought it was a fun project. I question his sanity. We looked at carpet today and ordered some nice Berber.

Remodeling

Jack is in the process of ripping out the carpet and replacing the subfloor. There is a "dip" in the floor right in the main traffic area. Could be a messy job.

I went on an interview for Hickory Farms yesterday and may become the new Sausage Lady if they accept the fact I need two weeks off...one for the cruise in November and one to fly back to Seattle for Maddy's birthday.

Sweatshirt weather here..only 62 degrees.

Halloween.. isnt that when Golf Courses Reopen?

These are the cutest witches I've ever seen. Kiersten (Maddy's cousin) and Madison. Madison called me last night and asked if I would come trick or treating this weekend with her. It made me kinda sad and I had to tell her "No honey Grandma lives in California" Her reply was "Oh yeah Daddy said you guys live in California because there is sun there"

Since we live in 55+ community we don't get trick or treaters. The big event around here next Saturday will be the reopening of the golf course

Algadones Mexico

Menu in Algadones

Drove down to Algadones yesterday..about a 2 1/2 hour trip from here. We parked in a huge parking lot and walked across the Border into Mexico. Algadones is basically a yucky town that caters to Americans and Canadians buying prescriptions, glasses, cigarettes, booze and having dental work done. Typical in Mexico, we ran the gauntlet of " Hey lady you need some glasses or dental work? Come and look at my jewelry...special sale for you today" We spent the night at the Quechan Resort Casino nearby (on the CA side). It opened earlier this year so it's nice and new and clean. Had a great buffet dinner...2 for 1 and it was like Thanksgiving with turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy. The best part for me however was the chocolate fountain at the dessert table. Yum.

We made it home before the wind storm hit. There is a stretch of road on the way to Algadones (and Yuma AZ) that runs through the Imperial Dunes Recreation area and it would have been a dusty, blowing mess down there.

Golf Cart Parade

Here are some pictures of Suzie L.(and handsome escort, hubby Gary) in her Northwest Airlines Uniform getting ready to march in the Golf Cart Parade with the "Dusty Wings"... Dusty Wings of the Desert, Inc. is a non-profit philanthropic organization of current and past flight attendants. Members comprise a synergistic group of women who enjoy common interests, and the support they give the community through their donations.

It was hot so we did'nt stay for the whole parade. We wanted to catch a glimpse of Suzie and check out some of the golf carts.

If there was a "Suzie doll" dressed in this outfit I'd buy a dozen of them! So cute!

My Beach in the Desert

Remember all of the rocks we lugged up from the beach at Kalaloch? Here they are in the front garden next to Jack's glass float.
